Death of HI colleague Abdelsattar

Advocacy | Armed violence reduction | Protection | PUBLISHED ON January 29th 2020

It is with great sadness that Humanity & Inclusion announces the death of our colleague Abdelsattar, who was unanimously appreciated for his kindness, humour, dedication and professionalism.

Abdelsattar’s tragic death is yet another hidden consequence of the war. After he fell ill he could not access adequate medical care because it would have meant passing through checkpoints where he would risk being arrested. He developed serious complications and, when he eventually did reach a hospital, fought a long battle due to the absence of proper medication and the needed equipment to help him fight the disease, which eventually led to his death.

Abdelsattar will be dearly missed by his colleagues, who will especially remember his loyalty, quirky humour and self-effacing nature. As an experienced technical expert in the field, Abdelsattar was an invaluable part of the team he worked with.

Humanity & Inclusion extends the deepest condolences to Abdelsattar’s family, friends and community.
